The House of the Rocks
The House of the Rocks (Casa de les Roques) is a unique building specially built to store the great wooden wagons used for the annual Festival of Corpus Christi held in the Plaza de La Virgin every June since its founding in the early 1300’s. The city government decided at the time that a special structure was needed to house these great rolling works of art and so the construction of the main hall was completed in 1435.
Visits are free to this highly unusual living museum. The oldest of the wagons, known as ‘rocks’, was built in the 1400’s and each of them is a marvel of carpentry and decoration, covered in religious scenes and iconography.
Located in El Carmen just steps from the Torres de Serranos, the House of the Rocks is an opportunity to see an impressive part of Valencia’s living history. You’ve never seen anything like it!
